Shifting Power at the Table: Values-Based Data and Analysis

Event Date: November 12, 2024

Dive deep into the power of data to drive a racially and socially just transition. This training, presented by the Institute for Social Transformation at UC Santa Cruz on behalf of the Community Economic Mobilization Initiative (CEMI), equips you with tools to conduct values-based data analysis in partnership with those directly impacted by racism and inequity. You will gain practical skills to analyze data through a racial justice lens and help build a more equitable and inclusive future.

Follow along to learn how to:

  • Recognize the role of power in the production, interpretation, and communication of data, and its impact on racial equity in planning and policy decisions.

  • Challenge the assumption that legitimate knowledge of communities comes only from formally educated researchers, not community members' lived experiences.

  • Acquire frameworks and tools to collaborate with community members in analyzing and presenting data in ways that honor the expertise everyone brings, which is essential for achieving equitable regional systems and processes.
